MODULE 11 PHOTOGRAPHY ASSIGNMENT
- Environmental portraits are portraits that use props and/or the background to give information about the subject of the portrait. For example, taking a photograph of someone in a hard hat in front of a building under construction tells you the person might be a construction worker or foreman. Take an environmental portrait of three different people. Include a short description of the person, indicating what the props and/or background say about the subject.
The props and background, and the person themselves, clearly show that this person is dressed up as the Statue of Liberty on a crowded street. Possibly to charge to take pictures with tourists.
Based on his attire and body type, it is very possible that this man is a body builder. They way he is looking at his phone suggests that he his waiting for a text, or for someone to show up.
From the machinery, and the camera, around this man it is evident that he is a photographer.
- Submit one black and white nature shot that could also be a fine art photograph. For example, you might take a photograph of a landscape in the area where you live or a macro photograph of a flower.
- Submit one photograph that a photojournalist might take of an event or setting. Think about the story that you want to tell with the photograph and aim to illustrate that story through the photograph.
Depicted here is a family taking pictures with the Easter Bunny at Westshore Mall, an event which happens yearly.
- Food photography is one area that has grown in popularity, particularly with stock photography. Practice taking photographs of different types of foods. Submit three of your favorite culinary/food photographs from your practice.
- Compile ten photographs that you might use in your portfolio. Submit the photographs with a short description of why you feel these would make good portfolio photographs.
I choose these photos because they are a diverse set of photos from different situations, all taken by me, and they all came out nicely.
